The TLS protocol is used to encrypt your servers’ communications with Stripe, so it’s significant that your integration uses the latest version. (TLS 1.Two is much more secure than its predecessors.)

Since our announcement two years ago, we’ve bot working with our users to upgrade almost all Stripe integrations to using TLS 1.Two for API requests.

Here’s the timeline we’ll be following:

  • Monday, February Nineteen: All servers using older versions of TLS will be blocked from the Stripe API ter test mode.
  • Wednesday, June 13: All servers using older versions of TLS will be blocked from the Stripe API ter live mode.

If you’re not sure you’re running TLS 1.Two, you can go after our detailed upgrade instructions to check your version and learn how to secure your servers. While there are usually no switches required to your Stripe code, you might need to upgrade the operating system or packages on your servers.

At Stripe, we’ve long bot excited about the possibilities of cryptocurrencies and the experimentation and innovation that’s come with them. Te 2014, wij became the very first major payments company to support Bitcoin payments.

Our hope wasgoed that Bitcoin could become a universal, decentralized substrate for online transactions and help our customers enable buyers te places that had less credit card invasion or use cases where credit card fees were prohibitive.

Overheen the past year or two, spil block size boundaries have bot reached, Bitcoin has evolved to become better-suited to being an asset than being a means of exchange. Given the overall success that the Bitcoin community has achieved, it’s hard to quibble with the decisions that have bot made along the way. (And we’re certainly glad to see any novel, ambitious project do so well.)

This has led to Bitcoin becoming less useful for payments, however. Transaction confirmation times have risen substantially, this, te turn, has led to an increase te the failure rate of transactions denominated te fiat currencies. (By the time the transaction is confirmed, fluctuations ter Bitcoin price mean that it’s for the “wrong” amount.) Furthermore, fees have risen a fine overeenkomst. For a regular Bitcoin transaction, a toverfee of ems of U.S. dollars is common, making Bitcoin transactions about spil expensive spil bankgebouw wires.

Because of this, we’ve seen the desire from our customers to accept Bitcoin decrease. And of the businesses that are accepting Bitcoin on Stripe, we’ve seen their revenues from Bitcoin decline substantially. Empirically, there are fewer and fewer use cases for which accepting or paying with Bitcoin makes sense.

Therefore, embarking today, wij are winding down support for Bitcoin payments. Overheen the next three months wij will work with affected Stripe users to ensure a slick transition before wij zekering processing Bitcoin transactions on April 23, 2018.

Despite this, wij remain very optimistic about cryptocurrencies overall. There are a lotsbestemming of efforts that wij view spil promising and that wij can certainly imagine enabling support for te the future. We’re interested ter what’s happening with Lightning and other proposals to enable swifter payments. OmiseGO is an ambitious and clever proposal, more broadly, Ethereum proceeds to spawn many high-potential projects. Wij may add support for Stellar (to which wij provided seed funding) if substantive use resumes to grow. It’s possible that Bitcoin Specie, Litecoin, or another Bitcoin variant, will find a way to achieve significant popularity while keeping settlement times and transaction fees very low. Bitcoin itself may become viable for payments again te the future. And, of course, there’ll be more ideas and technologies te the years ahead.

So, wij will proceed to pay close attention to the ecosystem and to look for opportunities to help our customers by adding support for cryptocurrencies and fresh distributed protocols ter the future.

Wij built Sigma to help businesses quickly analyze their Stripe gegevens and get to insights swifter. Today, we’re adding the capability for Connect platforms to query gegevens about their connected accounts spil well.

Platforms like DoorDash, Catawiki, OrderMyGear, and others accept money and pay out to hundreds of thousands of sellers and service providers around the world.
